Kijani Flow is a carbon credits exchange built for Africa, designed to connect the continent's growing supply of voluntary and compliance-grade credits with the global buyers, brokers, and corporates who need verifiable inventory. We set out to address a structural problem in carbon markets: African projects produce some of the highest-integrity credits in the world but transact through fragmented channels, opaque pricing, and slow settlement that depress the value reaching project owners on the ground. The platform pairs a real-time order matching engine with role-based dashboards for buyers, sellers, verifiers, and registry partners, all wrapped in a multilingual interface that respects how the market actually operates from Nairobi to Marrakech. Our work focused on building the rails of a serious financial venue, with the rigor of a trading platform and the trust signals of a verified registry, then making it usable by participants who are not full-time traders. Kijani Flow positions Neoafric at the infrastructure layer of the African climate economy, where the slow work of trust, settlement, and verification quietly determines whether the market succeeds.


An Exchange, Not a Marketplace
The decision to build Kijani Flow as an exchange rather than a marketplace shaped every subsequent choice. Orders match in real time against a transparent book, prices settle through a clearing layer rather than peer-to-peer negotiation, and every retirement is recorded to an immutable ledger that buyers can show their auditors with confidence. Four role-based dashboards serve the four sides of the trade, project developers, corporate buyers, brokers, and verifiers, each with the tools their workflow actually needs and none of the clutter from the others. The system supports voluntary and compliance credit types side by side, with multi-currency settlement and eight languages including right-to-left support, so that the platform reads as native whether a user is signing in from Lagos, Cape Town, or Casablanca.


AI-Assisted Ingestion and the Retirement Ledger
The single hardest problem in carbon markets is getting project data into a system in a form that buyers and auditors will trust. Kijani Flow tackles this with an AI-assisted ingestion pipeline that parses project documents, methodology reports, and verification certificates, extracting the structured fields the exchange needs while preserving the original evidence for audit. Once a credit is retired, the transaction lands in an immutable retirement ledger that produces a buyer-facing certificate and a corresponding registry update, closing a loop that historically required weeks of manual reconciliation. The whole pipeline was designed so the exchange can scale credit listings without scaling the operations team linearly behind it, which is the only way a market this complex eventually becomes liquid.
